Amritsar Police Bust International Illegal Arms Smuggling Network, 3 Arrested with Six modern pistols

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has achieved a major breakthrough by busting an international illegal arms smuggling network. In the operation, three accused were arrested and six sophisticated pistols were recovered from their possession.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with Pakistan-based arms smugglers through social media platforms. The network was involved in trafficking illegal weapons and supplying them to criminal elements active in Punjab.

Gang used to procure weapons from across the border

DGP Gaurav Yadav shared on X that the gang used to smuggle consignments of weapons from across the border and distribute them to local criminals, thereby fuelling criminal activities in the state. The recovered weapons were also meant to be supplied to various locations through this network.

FIR registered in Amritsar Cantonment Police Station

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Amritsar Cantonment Police Station. Police said that further investigation is underway to trace all forward and backward linkages of the network.

Officials added that this action is just the beginning, and a comprehensive probe is being carried out to dismantle the entire network. Technical and intelligence agencies are also being roped in to crack down on such illegal operations being run through social media.
