Chandigarh residents who failed to pay their property tax before the end of the rebate scheme on May 31 will now face a 25% penalty along with 12% annual interest from June 1.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh has indicated that strict measures will be taken against persistent defaulters, including the possibility of disconnecting water connections and attaching properties.

With the expiry of the tax relief scheme, residential property owners will no longer receive the 20% rebate, while the 10% rebate available to commercial property owners has also been withdrawn. Despite repeated reminders, a significant number of taxpayers in the city are yet to clear their dues.

To facilitate tax payments, the Municipal Corporation has provided both online and offline options. Taxpayers can pay through the official MC Chandigarh website by entering the required details under the property tax section and completing the payment process.

Alternatively, payments can be made at Sampark Centres through cash, cheque, or demand draft during working hours from 9 am to 5 pm.

Residents facing issues related to property tax payments can visit the MCC office on the ground floor of Sector 17, Chandigarh, or contact the helpline at 0172-5021618 for assistance.

On the final day of the rebate scheme, which coincided with a Sunday, Municipal Corporation offices and Sampark Centres witnessed heavy footfall as residents rushed to avoid penalties and interest charges. According to MC Chandigarh, nearly 65,000 taxpayers deposited property tax between April 1 and May 31, generating approximately ₹50 crore in revenue for the civic body.
