Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday held extensive meetings with various employee unions working under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and the Maanbhatta Workers Sanjha Morcha, reiterating the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government’s commitment to resolving the legitimate concerns of workers.
Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employee issues, held detailed discussions with representatives of several workers’ unions regarding their demands and grievances.
During the meetings, the Finance Minister directed the concerned departments to resolve departmental-level issues on a priority basis. He said that all genuine proposals related to service and employment matters should be forwarded to the Personnel Department, while issues involving financial implications should be sent to the Finance Department for necessary consideration.
Assuring the union leaders of the government’s support, Cheema said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government is fully committed to addressing the genuine demands of workers and that the required procedural work is already underway.
To provide immediate relief to employees working under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, the Finance Minister also issued strict instructions to the Education Department. He directed district-level officials to closely monitor and promptly resolve practical difficulties faced by mid-day meal workers at the grassroots level.
Representatives from multiple unions participated in the meetings and presented their demands before the Cabinet Sub-Committee. Delegations included members of the Mid-Day Meal Cook Union (BMS), Lal Jhanda Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, Democratic Mid-Day Meal Cook Front, Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, Mid-Day Meal Daftari Karamchari Union, and the Maanbhatta Workers Sanjha Morcha.
The discussions focused on improving working conditions, addressing pending issues, and ensuring timely resolution of workers’ concerns through coordinated action by the concerned departments.
