Punjab government has assured teacher unions that the reservation quota earmarked for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category in the direct recruitment of 1,013 lecturers will be fully protected. Social Security, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Affairs Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said the rightful reserved share of the SC community would be ensured in the recruitment process.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of SC/BC teacher unions at Punjab Bhawan on Monday, the minister discussed issues related to reservation in the recruitment drive as well as other demands raised by the unions. Representatives presented their concerns and suggestions, seeking clarity on the implementation of reservation provisions.
Dr Baljit Kaur stated that the recruitment process would move forward strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions and the policies laid down by the Punjab government. She emphasized that every legitimate demand raised by the unions would be examined seriously and addressed in line with legal and policy frameworks.
Minister reiterated the government's commitment to safeguarding the constitutional rights of disadvantaged and backward communities. She said the recruitment process would be conducted in a transparent and fair manner to ensure that no eligible category faces injustice and that all reservation-related provisions are implemented as per established rules.
Highlighting the importance of social justice, Dr Baljit Kaur said it is not merely a government policy but the foundation of an equitable society. She added that the government's objective is to ensure equal participation of every section of society in the state's development while protecting their rights.
During the meeting, several issues raised by union representatives were also discussed. The minister said the government believes in resolving concerns through dialogue and assured that all genuine matters put forward by teacher organizations would be considered according to relevant rules and policies.
Union representatives thanked the minister for hearing their concerns and providing a positive assurance. They expressed hope that the government would continue to take supportive steps in matters related to the rights of SC and BC communities.
The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Department, Raji P. Srivastava, IAS; Special Secretary, Ravinder Singh, IAS; Director, Vimmi Bhullar, IAS; Director, School Education Saktar Singh Bal and other senior officers of the department.
