Chief Justice of India Surya Kant expressed disappointment over what he called the misrepresentation of his oral remarks by a section of the media. He clarified that his comments were aimed at people entering professions through fake degrees, not at India’s youth.
India’s Chief Justice Surya Kant on Saturday issued a clarification after controversy erupted over his recent remarks concerning the younger generation. Accusing a section of the media of presenting his oral observations in a misleading manner, the CJI said his comments were never directed at the country’s youth.
In an official statement, the Chief Justice said he was deeply hurt to see how his remarks, made during the hearing of a minor case, were wrongly interpreted. He explained that he had specifically criticized individuals who use fake and forged degrees to enter professions such as law.
He further stated that similar “parasites” have infiltrated media, social media, and other respected professions, damaging the credibility of institutions.
Rejecting claims that he had criticized the youth of the country, the CJI termed such allegations “completely baseless and fabricated.” Praising India’s young population, he said he takes immense pride in the nation’s present and future human resources.
“I am inspired by every young Indian and consider them the pillars of a developed India,” the Chief Justice said, adding that Indian youth hold a special place in his heart and continue to motivate him.
