Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

In response to the waterlogging caused by recent heavy rains, the Haryana Government is taking swift and effective action. Fully committed to addressing this challenge, the government is implementing several measures to ensure public safety and convenience.

Teams from the Municipal Corporation, GMDA, Public Works Department, and Disaster Management are actively deployed. They are working with drains, temporary pumping stations, and specialized equipment to remove water from the affected areas. Drain cleaning and streamlining of the drainage system are being carried out on a war footing to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.

An official spokesman stated that CM Nayab Singh Saini has issued clear directives to officials to maintain constant vigilance and take prompt, effective action. Efforts are being made to ensure that public life is disrupted as little as possible due to waterlogging. The government urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in waterlogged areas and to cooperate with disaster management teams. Regular updates are being shared through social media and other communication channels to keep the public informed.

The Haryana Government remains sensitive to public concerns and is taking all necessary steps to address the situation, while also viewing constructive criticism as an opportunity for improvement. Our goal is to resolve waterlogging issues in Gurugram and build a resilient infrastructure to prevent such challenges in the future.

In view of the situation arising due to heavy rainfall, various government agencies, in coordination with the district administration, continued working around the clock to ensure effective drainage and minimize inconvenience to citizens. On the night of 9th July, 103 mm of rain was recorded between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM, leading to waterlogging on several roads. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar stated that teams from multiple departments remained active throughout the night to address the impact of the rain and prevent disruptions for the public. To support ongoing drainage operations and reduce road congestion, a ‘Work from Home’ advisory was issued the following morning. The temporary drain constructed by the district administration near Narsinghpur on NH-48, specifically for water discharge from the service lane, proved to be highly effective. Despite overnight rainfall, there was no waterlogging in either service lane, unlike in previous instances when both lanes remained flooded for two to three days. By the afternoon of the next day, water had been successfully drained from the district’s main roads.

Work carried out amid rain using pump machinery

Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Gurugram Pradeep Dahiya stated that as soon as the rain began, corporation teams immediately started nighttime arrangements for water drainage using pumps and machinery. Simultaneously, cleanliness branch teams were actively working to ensure the drainage systems kept clean at various locations. The teams were engaged at all major waterlogged areas, including Bahrampur, South City-2, Sheetla Mata Road, Laxman Vihar, Gulmohar Park, Silver Jubilee Park, Vipul World, Rosewood City, Sushant Lok-3, Sector-48, Fazilpur Jharssa, Housing Board Colony, Ashok Vihar Phase-3, Sector-39, 40, Ashok Vihar, Sector-7, Sector-10, 10A, Basai Road, Sector-28, MG Road, Madanpuri Road, Sector-15 Part-1 and Part-2, actively working to facilitate effective water drainage.

Positive responses received on social media

The proactive efforts of various departments received positive reactions from the citizens of the city, including public representatives. On social media, user Gauri Sareen praised the work, saying, “Very good work. I went out this morning, and except for a few places, most areas were much better.”Another user, Naughty Reporter, commented, “There is a lot of improvement compared to last year. The water drains out quickly, and the administration’s work is commendable.” Sumedha Sharma acknowledged that while the rain exposed some basic infrastructure issues, she noted a positive change in the Municipal Corporation’s approach this time. “For the first time in years, employees were seen working on-site overnight to manage the city. The night rangers of the corporation ensured smooth functioning throughout the night.” Tejasvi Jangra Bhartiya also appreciated the hard work of employees who labored throughout the night to eliminate waterlogging. Councillors Avnish Raghav, Vijay Parmar, Sonia Yadav, Pratham Chandra Vashishtha, along with RWAs of Sectors 22A, 22B, 31, and many other dignitaries, expressed their appreciation for the Municipal Corporation’s efforts. User Mera Bharat Mahaan summed it up, stating, “The Municipal Corporation has successfully met the challenge of the first major monsoon rain this year.”

All corporation teams on high alert until next rainfall

Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Gurugram Pradeep Dahiya said that as soon as the rains started, the corporation teams became active and remained in the field throughout the night. In view of the upcoming rains, the corporation teams have been put on alert mode and the control rooms are actively monitoring. We appeal to all Gurugram residents not to throw garbage, plastic or any undesirable object in the sewerage and drainage line. This obstructs the drainage system and the situation of waterlogging can become serious. If anyone is found doing this, then along with legal action, a fine will also be imposed against him. The city belongs to the citizens here and everyone should contribute to making it better. Keep an eye on those who make the city dirty or cause damage. All citizens should cooperate with the government and the corporation under the spirit of my city-my responsibility.
