The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted a raid at a residential flat in Mohali’s Kharar area, leading to a dramatic recovery of nearly ₹21 lakh in cash after a bag filled with currency notes was allegedly thrown from the ninth floor of a housing society.
The raid took place at Western Towers Society, where ED officials reached Flat No. 906 linked to an IT sector businessman identified as Nitin Kumar Gohil. According to residents, the businessman had shifted to the society around four months ago.

Sources said the accused allegedly received prior information about the ED action. Soon after the agency team arrived, a red bag packed with bundles of ₹500 notes was reportedly placed inside a white bag and thrown from the ninth floor in an attempt to dispose of the cash.
However, the bag burst open after hitting the ground, scattering currency bundles across the area. A man waiting near a vehicle allegedly picked up the bag and tried to flee in a white car, but the ED team noticed the movement and chased him down. Officials later recovered around ₹21 lakh in cash from the bag.
The incident triggered panic inside the society as residents gathered in large numbers after seeing cash lying scattered on the ground. Police later restricted entry to the tower while central agency personnel continued the operation.
On the directions of Kharar DSP Ishant Singla, local police teams also reached the spot. SHO Amarinder Singh of Kharar City Police Station supervised the local police response and joined the investigation.
Officials have not yet disclosed details about the case or the source of the recovered cash. The investigation is currently underway.
