In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police and the Counter Intelligence wing have solved the sensational grenade incident in Gurdaspur, arresting three accused involved in the case. The arrests come in connection with the recovery of a hand grenade near Geeta Bhawan Road on April 27, 2026, where an explosive device was allegedly hurled near a shop, triggering panic in the area.
According to police officials, the operation was carried out using a combination of technical inputs, CCTV footage analysis, and human intelligence. Investigators meticulously examined surveillance footage from the area and gathered local inputs to identify the suspects. Acting swiftly on these leads, the police teams tracked down and apprehended all three accused.
During interrogation and subsequent searches, police recovered another live hand grenade from the residence of one of the accused. This recovery has raised serious concerns, indicating that the suspects may have been planning further attacks. Officials believe that the timely arrests may have prevented a major untoward incident.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were operating under the directions of a foreign-based handler. Sources indicate that the same handler had supplied them with two hand grenades and was guiding their actions remotely. This points towards the involvement of a larger cross-border network rather than an isolated local crime.
A case has been registered at City Police Station, Gurdaspur under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act. Police have intensified efforts to uncover the entire network, including identifying local facilitators and tracing links to the foreign handler.
Punjab Police has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and more crucial revelations are expected in the coming days. Security agencies are also working to identify additional links and prevent any future threats, ensuring stricter vigilance across the region.
