Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh's capital, Shimla, triggered multiple landslides on Saturday, damaging infrastructure and putting several residential buildings at risk. A major landslide occurred in the Bothwell area near Sanjauli College, where a retaining wall collapsed and slid toward residential houses, creating panic among local residents.

According to locals, three to four buildings have come under direct threat and could be severely affected if the slope gives way further. The collapse also damaged the access road leading to the houses, making movement difficult for residents.

Landslide struck at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, when most people were asleep, causing widespread fear in the neighborhood. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

In another incident, vehicles were buried under debris after a landslide hit the Rijhana area following continuous rainfall.

The Bothwell site had witnessed a similar landslide on June 28, 2025, when huge quantities of debris and boulders crashed into residential houses, trapping several women and children inside their homes.

Meanwhile, a vacant old house collapsed in Shimla's Ram Nagar area due to the incessant rain. Since the structure had remained unoccupied for a long time, no injuries or loss of life were reported. However, the incident has heightened concerns among nearby residents, who fear that other dilapidated buildings could also collapse if heavy rainfall continues.

Residents have urged the district administration to intensify monitoring in vulnerable areas, inspect unsafe structures, and take preventive measures to avert any major disaster.
