India is reeling under an intense heatwave as Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded a scorching 47.6°C, making it the hottest city in the world on the day. The city has also reported extreme temperatures in the past, including 47.4°C in April 2022 and again on April 25, 2026.
Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer recorded 46.4°C, while Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh reached 46°C, marking its highest temperature in the last decade. Several other cities also witnessed extreme heat conditions, including Barmer (46°C), Wardha (46.5°C), Amravati (46.6°C), and Akola (46.3°C).
As the heatwave intensifies across multiple states, the Central Government has directed all states and Union Territories to establish heat stroke management units in hospitals and healthcare centres to handle rising heat-related illnesses.
