Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has strongly reacted to the ongoing protests in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), accusing Pakistan of circulating fake news and videos to mislead the international community.

Jaiswal said that India is closely monitoring reports of unrest in PoK and described Pakistan’s narrative as a “desperate attempt” to hide its own failures and divert attention from alleged human rights violations in the region.

He further stated that reports of police brutality are emerging from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, in which several people have been killed and many others injured. He added that India expects the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions and alleged human rights abuses.

According to reports, more than 30 people have been killed and around 200 injured in violent clashes between protesters and security forces in PoK. The unrest reportedly escalated after authorities imposed a ban on the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a major civil society group that has been leading demonstrations over economic and political grievances in the region.

Police officials said that protesters gathered outside a hospital mortuary, where the body of a JAAC member was brought after he was allegedly killed in police firing.

Security forces attempted to disperse the crowd, following which protesters allegedly used automatic weapons, petrol bombs, and other weapons during the clashes, according to police.
