Arrested  drug smuggler was on the way to deliver drug consignment :Ssp Khakh

In yet another major success against interstate -border smuggling networks amidst the ongoing war against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav IPS,, the Malerkotla Police have busted an interstate drug trafficking racket with the arrest of two paddlers and seizure of 60 kgs of poppy husk worth lakhs of rupees.

The accused have been identified as Bhim Singh alias Bhima and Jeone Kaur alias Jeoni, wife of Gran Singh - both residents of Bhudan village in Sangrur

Divulging more details to the press media, the senior superintendent of police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that Acting on tip-off, a raiding party led by Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh caught the duo red-handed with the contraband near Dangra Wada. "The seizure includes around 60 kilograms of poppy husk which was meant for supplying to drug addicts," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Malerkotla, Mr Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh.


This is the second major haul of banned narcotics by the district police in less than a month. Earlier in November, 52 kgs of poppy husk was seized and two interstate drug smugglers were arrested.

"Our investigations indicate that the poppy husk was sourced from illicit cultivators in neighbouring states and smuggled into Punjab. The accused were supplying it to local paddlers here," SSP Khakh revealed.  

Meanwhile, a case FIR No. 84, under section 15/62/85 NDPS Act registered against the accused at police station Sandhor, Malerkotla.

The accused will be produced before a local court and police remand will be sought to unearth their networks. "We are working to bust the entire chain including forward and backward linkages," the SSP affirmed.

Stating that drugs and narcotics pose a grave threat to the youth and society, SSP Khakh said the Malerkotla police has launched a war against drugs and will continue decisive action against the illegal trade.

He has appealed to the public to come forward and report any information regarding drug crimes on the helpline number 112.
