Protests will no longer be permitted at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, as the Central Government has removed the site from the list of designated protest venues. Based on the recommendations of a committee constituted by the Union Home Ministry, Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi have been designated as alternative venues for demonstrations.

The decision came after the Cockroach Janata Party sought permission to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

However, the Delhi Police refused permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

With the site no longer on the designated list, protesters will have to seek permission to hold demonstrations at the newly designated venues, subject to applicable rules and police approval.
