Indian tennis player Karman Kaur Thandi has secured a place in the women’s singles qualifying draw at the French Open, marking an important step in her return to top-level competition. Representing the Roundglass Tennis Academy, Thandi will face France’s Harmony Tan in the opening qualifying round. Both players enter the match unseeded.
Thandi earned her spot in the qualifying draw through her Protected Ranking (PR) of 238, which placed her 119th on the official entry list. The Protected Ranking system allows players returning from long injury breaks to compete in major tournaments without losing their standing entirely, offering them a pathway back into elite competition.
Her entry into the Roland Garros qualifying event is seen as a significant development for Indian tennis, particularly in the singles category, where representation at Grand Slam events has been limited in recent times. Competing at this level again highlights her steady recovery and determination to re-establish herself among the top players.
Training in Chandigarh as part of the Roundglass Tennis Academy setup, Thandi has been working her way back after a prolonged injury layoff. Her return to Grand Slam competition reflects both her personal efforts and the support system provided by the academy. Within the program, she continues to serve as a senior figure, offering guidance and motivation to younger players.
Speaking ahead of her opening match, Thandi said that competing at Roland Garros carries special meaning for her after the challenges she has faced. She noted that returning to the court at this stage reinforces the importance of persistence and belief, especially after setbacks.
The upcoming match against Harmony Tan will be a key test as Thandi aims to progress through the qualifying rounds and reach the main draw. Her participation itself marks a notable comeback moment, underlining resilience and the opportunity to rebuild her position on the international tennis circuit.
