Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Central Government, alleging that it is allowing oil companies to earn "illegal profits" by keeping fuel prices high despite a decline in global crude oil prices.
Kejriwal claimed that while international crude oil prices have fallen significantly, petrol prices in India have remained unchanged at around ₹102 per litre since May this year. He urged the government to provide immediate relief to consumers by reducing petrol prices to ₹82 per litre and implementing a similar reduction in diesel prices.
The AAP leader argued that lower petrol and diesel prices would have a cascading effect on the economy by reducing transportation and logistics costs, ultimately helping to curb inflation. He said a cut in fuel prices would offer significant relief to households struggling with rising living expenses.
Kejriwal also questioned why the benefits of lower global crude oil prices were not being passed on to Indian consumers and urged the Centre to act in the interest of the public rather than allowing oil companies to make excessive profits.
