Kolkata witnessed a grand political spectacle on Saturday as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal. The swearing-in ceremony drew several top BJP leaders, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, but it was veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty who grabbed major attention with his unique appearance.

Wearing dark sunglasses and a Fidel Castro-style military cap, Mithun Chakraborty arrived at the ceremony in his trademark style, instantly becoming one of the most talked-about personalities at the event. His energetic presence and distinctive fashion statement stood out amid the gathering of senior political leaders.

During the ceremony, former Union Minister Smriti Irani was seen standing beside Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were also present on stage along with several other dignitaries.

A touching moment of the event came when Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored 98-year-old veteran BJP worker Makhanlal Sarkar and sought his blessings. Sarkar is regarded as one of the earliest grassroots nationalist leaders associated with the movement led by Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Kashmir during 1952.

Along with Suvendu Adhikari, five ministers were also sworn into the new Bengal cabinet, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik. The BJP’s first cabinet in Bengal aims to balance representation across various social and regional communities in the state.
