Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Indonesia's highest civilian honour during his official visit on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations. The award was presented in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, alongside high-level delegation talks between the two leaders.
The two countries signed major agreements covering defence, agriculture, maritime security, and strategic cooperation. As part of the defence partnership, Indonesia decided to procure India's indigenously developed Astra air-to-air missile for its air force after being impressed by its operational capabilities.
India will also support Indonesia by supplying additional batteries for the BrahMos missile system, further strengthening Jakarta's defence capabilities.
Both sides also agreed to deepen cooperation in defence technology, military training, and security, a move expected to enhance India's standing as a global defence manufacturing hub.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Several key bilateral agreements were signed during the visit, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.\
Accepting the honour, Modi dedicated it to the people of India, saying the award belongs to "the millions of Indians" and symbolizes the deep historical ties and expanding global partnership between India and Indonesia.
The leaders also placed strong emphasis on maritime security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. India and Indonesia agreed to jointly develop the Sabang Port, located near the strategically vital Strait of Malacca and about 100 miles from India's Great Nicobar Port Project.
The project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve maritime security, and boost trade and supply chain resilience across the Indo-Pacific.
