Severe heatwave conditions in Chandigarh have prompted authorities to restrict outdoor activities in school summer camps. The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued directions banning all outdoor activities during summer camps being held in schools amid rising temperatures.

The commission stated that children must be protected from extreme sunlight and hot winds, especially during afternoon hours. Schools and institutions have been instructed to prioritize students’ safety and avoid exposing them to harsh weather conditions.

CCPCR advised schools to conduct only indoor activities in cool and safe environments during summer camps. According to the commission, the continuous rise in temperature and heatwave conditions could seriously affect children’s health.

Earlier, the commission had also issued a heatwave advisory. Following this, the Education Department of the Chandigarh Administration announced summer vacations in all government, private, and aided schools from May 23.

CCPCR Chairperson Shipra Bansal said that children’s safety and health remain the top priority. She urged schools and institutions to act responsibly to ensure no child is exposed to extreme heat conditions
