Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Armed Systems Complex in Surat, where he inspected a range of indigenous defence equipment, including Made-in-India tanks and drones.

The facility is one of India's most advanced defence manufacturing centers, producing, assembling, and testing armored vehicles, artillery systems, and other military platforms for the armed forces.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also inaugurated National Highway projects worth ₹12,421 crore, aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting economic growth in the region. The projects include two packages of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway along with four other key highway developments.

In line with the observance of World Environment Day on June 5, no promotional banners were installed across the city for the Prime Minister's event. Organizers encouraged party workers and attendees to use bicycles and electric vehicles, while the Surat Municipal Corporation deployed more than 450 electric buses to facilitate public transportation.

Apart from highway projects, Modi inaugurated a series of infrastructure works, including major and minor bridges, railway overbridges, flyovers, and nearly 70 underpasses. He also laid the foundation stone for four National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects worth ₹4,732 crore.

The projects include:

  • Four-laning of the Dhamasiya–Bitada section (Package-4) on NH-56

  • Four-laning of the Nasarpore–Malotha section (Package-6) on NH-56

  • Construction of a six-lane vehicular underpass near Reliance

  • A Vehicle Underpass (VUP)-cum-flyover at Kavas on the Surat-Hazira stretch of NH-53

Additionally, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated port and tourism development projects worth ₹885 crore in Daman, aimed at enhancing coastal infrastructure and tourism potential in the region.
