Punjab Police has claimed that the recent explosion on the Ambala–Amritsar rail freight corridor in Rajpura, Patiala, was carried out by a terror module allegedly linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and Khalistani extremists.
After the blast, police arrested four accused — Pradeep Singh Khalsa, Kulwinder Singh Banga, Satnam Singh Satta, and Gurpreet Singh Gopi. According to DIG Patiala Range Kuldeep Chahal, investigators recovered a bomb, two pistols, live cartridges, and an IED from their possession.
Preliminary interrogation suggests that the module was in direct contact with ISI handlers and Khalistani extremist groups based in Malaysia. The aim, according to police, was to disrupt peace in Punjab by carrying out terror activities and targeting railway operations.
Officials said the attack took place on the night of April 27 at around 8:30 PM, when an explosion occurred under a moving freight train. The train driver immediately alerted authorities after feeling the impact.
Railway Special DGP Shashi Prabha Dwivedi stated that it is possible the person planting the device may have been close to the blast site and could have been killed in the explosion. The deceased has been identified as Jagroop Singh alias Roopa from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district’s Panjwar village. He had reportedly travelled to Malaysia earlier.
