Police in Surrey have released the photograph of a 20-year-old youth of Punjabi origin allegedly linked to an extortion gang operating in the region. The suspect has been identified as Prabhjot Singh, with the image made public on May 4 as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to Canadian authorities, Singh was involved in cases related to extortion. He had previously been arrested, and following further action, was deported from the country. Police stated that releasing his photograph is intended to gather additional details about his alleged criminal activities.
Officials have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
Police further noted a sharp rise in extortion-related incidents over the past few years in Lower Mainland, particularly in Surrey. These incidents have included threats, shootings, targeted attacks on homes, and other violent crimes.
In several cases, foreign nationals, including those on student or other temporary visas, have been found linked to such networks. Earlier in 2026, the Surrey Police Service identified Singh as a suspect in extortion-related criminal activities and acted swiftly to arrest him.
Following his arrest, the case was handed over to the Canada Border Services Agency, which conducted an immigration review. Authorities determined that Singh was not eligible to remain in Canada, leading to his deportation.
On May 4, Surrey Police officially released Singh’s photo to the public, stating that the move is aimed at supporting the ongoing investigation and uncovering further links to the extortion network.
