A parking manager posted near the eastern gate of Taj Mahal allegedly staged a fake robbery after losing lakhs of rupees in IPL betting. Police have arrested the manager along with two accomplices for allegedly embezzling company funds worth ₹2.87 lakh.

The case came to light after Amit Vishan Verma, owner of Prime Parking Services and a resident of Mumbai, filed a complaint at Tajganj Police Station. According to the complaint, the company had secured the contract for Shilpgram Parking near the Taj Mahal, and Karan was appointed as the manager. On May 3, Karan was handed ₹2.87 lakh to deposit in the bank, but he allegedly failed to deposit the money and could not provide a satisfactory explanation.

DCP City Syed Ali Abbas said that Karan, a resident of Laxmi Nagar in Delhi, had been involved in IPL betting for a long time and had lost a large amount of money. To cover up the losses, he allegedly planned a fake robbery with the help of his former colleagues Bhudev and Rahul, both residents of Khalaua village in Malpura.

On May 4, Karan informed police that two unidentified men had robbed him of the company’s cash near ADA Heights. However, during the investigation, police uncovered that the robbery had been staged. As part of the conspiracy, Bhudev and Rahul allegedly intercepted Karan’s vehicle and pretended to snatch the cash bag, all with his consent.

Police arrested all three accused on Thursday and recovered ₹1 lakh in cash along with a motorcycle used in the crime.
