BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in his political career. The returning officer handed over the official certificate of election after the declaration of results.
Along with Chugh, BJP candidates Rajneesh Agrawal and Mahesh Kewat also secured unopposed victories to the Upper House. Chugh’s path became easier after the nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan was rejected.
A senior BJP leader from Amritsar, Tarun Chugh had long been considered a strong contender for the Rajya Sabha, and the speculation has now turned into reality. With his election from Madhya Pradesh, Chugh is expected to shoulder a dual responsibility—raising issues concerning Madhya Pradesh in Parliament while also living up to the expectations of his home state Punjab, particularly his native city of Amritsar.
His elevation is also a proud moment for Amritsar, as he becomes the fifth prominent leader from the holy city to reach the Rajya Sabha. Earlier, several distinguished leaders from Amritsar represented the city in the Upper House, beginning with former Punjab Chief Minister Gurmukh Singh Musafir, followed by veteran Congress leader Abdul Dar and others who carried the region’s voice to Parliament.
