Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, witnessed a bomb blast on Wednesday afternoon outside the BJP headquarters in Sector 37, causing panic in the area. The sound of the explosion was reportedly heard from a considerable distance. Following the incident, a city-wide alert has been issued.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police, fire brigade teams, and senior officials rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The area has been sealed off, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined.
No casualties or injuries have been reported
According to initial reports, a scooter parked outside the Punjab BJP office exploded around 5 PM. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Chandigarh SSP and IG Pushpendra Kumar reached the site soon after the incident.
Authorities are yet to identify the owner of the scooter. There has been no damage reported inside the BJP office. Fire brigade, dog squad, bomb squad, and forensic teams have also been deployed at the scene, collecting samples for further analysis.
