A crucial cabinet meeting of the Punjab government was held on Friday at the Chief Minister’s residence. Ahead of the meeting, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann informed via his social media account X that the bill related to cases of sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, passed in the Assembly, has been sent to the Governor.
The meeting also focused on ongoing recruitment drives across various departments and other administrative matters. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema is scheduled to address a press conference at 12 noon.
Second Meeting in a Month
This marks the second cabinet meeting within a month. The previous major meeting was held on April 11, 2026, where key decisions related to rural development and religious preservation were taken. Approval was granted for the installation of nearly 300,000 street lights across more than 11,500 villages, with an estimated cost of ₹550 crore.
Additionally, the ‘Jaagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Bill-2026’ was approved, which includes provisions for life imprisonment in cases of sacrilege.
