India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed strong confidence in the team’s ability to perform on the global stage, stating that winning a home World Cup has instilled belief that India can triumph anywhere in the world. Her remarks come as the team gears up for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup scheduled in England from June 12 to July 5.
Speaking ahead of the marquee tournament, Harmanpreet highlighted that India’s recent success in the Women’s ODI World Cup at home has significantly boosted team morale. She noted that handling pressure in home conditions prepares players to excel in challenging overseas environments. As part of their build-up, India will tour South Africa for a five-match T20I series, followed by a crucial three-match contest against England.
Despite never having won the Women’s T20 World Cup, Harmanpreet believes the team is well-prepared and determined to break the jinx this time. She credited consistent hard work and improved team attitude for India’s rise in international women’s cricket.
In a significant honour, a special 1,500+ capacity “Pink Stand” has been named after Harmanpreet at the Omaxe State Stadium in Dwarka, New Delhi. The stand is dedicated exclusively to women and their families, promoting inclusivity and a safe viewing experience. An emotional Harmanpreet called the gesture “rare and unforgettable,” emphasizing its importance in encouraging more girls to engage with sports.
She also praised the impact of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), stating that it has played a transformative role similar to the IPL in men’s cricket. According to her, WPL has elevated performance standards and contributed to India’s recent ICC success.
Harmanpreet concluded by saying that winning titles is key to recognition, and the team’s latest achievement has finally brought well-deserved appreciation for years of dedication by women cricketers.
