🔥 In top form, Indian star set to face strong international competition

Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh will lead the Indian elite field at the 18th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru, scheduled to take place on April 26. The national record holder in both 10,000m and 5,000m events is in Wonderfully form and carries high expectations.

The prestigious race, a World Athletics Gold Label event, offers a total prize pool of USD 210,000. Winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive USD 26,000 each. Indian elite athletes will also compete for a top prize of ₹3 lakh, with an additional ₹1 lakh bonus for setting a new event record.

Gulveer recently finished third at the New York City Half Marathon, clocking an impressive 59:42 — the fastest time ever recorded by an Indian in a half marathon. His 2025 season has been outstanding, with gold medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Asian Athletics Championships. He also set a new event record at the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata.

Speaking ahead of the race, Gulveer said that the Bengaluru event is one of the most competitive road races in India and expressed excitement about testing himself on this stage. He added that competing against top international runners pushes Indian athletes to improve and inspires young talent in the country.

The race will feature a strong international lineup, including Harbert Kibet, Vincent Langat, Gemechu Dida, and Samuel Habte, making it an exciting contest.

Gulveer also emphasized the importance of such events for India’s athletics ecosystem, especially in a year focused on preparations for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
