Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Saturday flagged off a new electric bus in Chamba and announced plans to procure 1,000 electric buses and 200 diesel buses for the state following the successful trial of electric vehicles.
Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri said the state government is expanding its public transport fleet to provide safer, more convenient and environmentally friendly travel options. He said the electric buses have been specially designed keeping in mind the geographical conditions and road network of the hill state.
Deputy Chief Minister noted that the operation of electric buses will not only improve passenger convenience but also help reduce pollution. To strengthen transport services in Chamba district, the government has provided 10 electric buses and 10 diesel buses.
He said the addition of these buses will enhance connectivity in rural and remote areas, ensuring better access to public transportation. The government’s focus, he added, is to improve transport facilities while extending reliable bus services to difficult and far-flung regions.
Agnihotri further announced that the government plans to introduce mini buses in Chamba in the future. These buses will be particularly useful on narrow and hilly roads, making transportation more accessible in challenging terrains.
He also said that with the expansion of the HRTC fleet, recruitment of drivers and conductors will be undertaken to support the increased operations and improve service delivery across the state.
