A two-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked and dragged away by a stray dog while playing in the courtyard of her home in Shimla’s Shankli area of Ruldubhatta Ward on Sunday evening.
According to family members, the toddler was playing in the courtyard around 4 pm when she wandered near the house gate. A stray dog passing through the area allegedly attacked her, bit her, and dragged her towards a nearby forested area.
Hearing the child’s screams, neighbours rushed out and chased the dog. Residents managed to rescue the girl from the animal’s grip nearly 25 metres away from her home. She was immediately taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, where she is undergoing treatment in the emergency ward.
Doctors said the child suffered deep injuries on her face, back, legs and several other parts of her body due to the dog attack.
Local businessman Karnail Singh said the victim is the daughter of his nephew, Ramandeep Singh, who lives in the Shankli area. He alleged that stray dog attacks have become increasingly common in the locality, with several residents having been bitten in recent months.
Residents have urged the Municipal Corporation to take immediate measures to control the growing stray dog population and prevent similar incidents in the future.
