In a major breakthrough under the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted an international narcotics smuggling network and arrested three accused, recovering 12 kilograms of heroin from their possession. This was disclosed by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurjant Singh, a resident of Village Sakatra in Tarn Taran district, and Arvinder Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, both residents of Village Bugga in Tarn Taran. Apart from the contraband, police teams have also impounded a black Hero motorcycle (PB46AL2286), which was being used to transport the drug consignment.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the main accused, Gurjant Singh, was in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler. He used to receive heroin consignments delivered via drones from across the border near his village and would then pass them on to his associates, Arvinder Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, as per instructions from the handler.
Acting on specific intelligence that Gurjant had received a large consignment and was about to deliver it, police teams laid special checkpoints on the Amritsar–Chabal Road near a toll plaza. The three accused were intercepted during the operation, and a search led to the recovery of 12 kg of heroin.
The DGP stated that further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages to dismantle the entire network. He added that more arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 28 dated 02-05-2026 has been registered under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
