Punjab government's 'Mission Clean Punjab' campaign received a major push on Tuesday as Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains carried out a surprise inspection of Moga city to assess the ground-level sanitation situation.
During the visit, the minister found several locations with open garbage dumps and inadequate cleanliness arrangements, prompting him to direct officials to issue a show-cause notice to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Moga.
Bains toured different parts of the city and interacted with local residents to gather feedback on sanitation services. He expressed dissatisfaction after observing accumulated waste at multiple spots, stating that such conditions were contrary to the cleanliness standards set by the state government.
Warning against negligence, the minister said that any lapse in maintaining sanitation would not be tolerated. He emphasized that the Bhagwant Mann-led government launched 'Mission Clean Punjab' with the objective of making cities cleaner, healthier, and better organized. The campaign, he added, would not remain confined to official records but would focus on visible results on the ground.
"The public deserves better civic facilities, and officials who fail to perform their responsibilities will be held accountable," Bains said.
The minister further revealed that he is personally monitoring the technology-driven cleanliness campaign. Under the initiative, daily field inspections from 7 am to 8 am have been made mandatory for all civic officials, ranging from Municipal Commissioners to Executive Officers.
Additionally, every city has been divided into 10-kilometre zones, with separate supervisory officers assigned to monitor sanitation standards and ensure effective implementation of the campaign.
