Punjab Newsline,Sports:

In a proud moment for Indian tennis, Donald Trump lauded rising star Dhakshineswar Suresh during the prestigious National Champions Day celebration at the White House. The annual event recognises top-performing student-athletes and championship-winning teams from across the United States, bringing global attention to emerging sporting talent.

Suresh attended the ceremony as a key member of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons men’s tennis team, which clinched the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship title. In a gripping final, Wake Forest defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 4-2, securing their second national crown. Suresh played a decisive role, delivering the match-winning point and showcasing nerves of steel under pressure.

Addressing the champions, Trump singled out Suresh for special praise, calling his performance “really incredible” and acknowledging his standout season. Highlighting his impact, Trump remarked that teammates unanimously identified Suresh as the best player in the squad—a testament to his consistency and leadership on court.

The 26-year-old from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, continues to build an impressive resume. Earlier in 2026, he was instrumental in India’s 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in the Davis Cup Qualifiers, winning crucial singles matches and contributing effectively in doubles. His performances have positioned him as one of India’s most promising tennis prospects.

Suresh’s journey reflects the growing influence of the US collegiate system in shaping global tennis careers. Starting at Georgia Gwinnett College, he later transferred to Wake Forest, where he evolved into a top-tier player and earned All-American honours.

On the professional circuit, Suresh has steadily climbed the rankings, reaching a career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 462 in April 2026, alongside a doubles ranking of No. 352. His ATP main draw debut came at the 2024 Winston-Salem Open, marking the beginning of his transition to the global stage.

With recognition at the highest level and consistent performances, Dhakshineswar Suresh is rapidly emerging as a name to watch in international tennis.
