Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reacted strongly to reports that seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MPs may be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Mann, who recently returned from a Netherlands visit, launched a sharp attack on the BJP, alleging that the party is trying to damage Punjab’s image and obstruct development work in the state. He said the BJP has “betrayed Punjabis” and lacks a strong leadership or face in Punjab.
Calling the BJP a “non-democratic party,” Mann alleged that it relies only on central agencies like the ED and CBI to pressure opponents. He also claimed that the people of Punjab will “punish” those who switch sides.
Referring to Raghav Chadha, Mann said the leader is now “feeling suffocated,” adding that those who were given respect and opportunities by the party should remain loyal. He further remarked that political parties are bigger than individual leaders.
Mann also criticised rival political developments involving Punjab leaders, saying contradictions within the opposition show opportunistic politics. He added that even if leaders leave, it would not weaken AAP, comparing it to “a drop of water in the ocean.”
Reiterating his confidence, Mann said no force can “buy” his commitment, and expressed faith that the people of Punjab stand firmly with his party.
