Raghav Chadha, a senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Friday announced his resignation from the party and declared that he will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Along with him, Rajya Sabha MPs Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak have also decided to switch sides.

Addressing a joint press conference, Chadha said that the three leaders have decided to merge with the BJP by invoking constitutional provisions. “We have decided that we, constituting two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members, will merge with the BJP in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution,” he stated.

Signs of a rift between Chadha and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had been visible for some time. The differences reportedly became evident when Kejriwal was in jail, while Chadha was seen sharing photos from London with his wife, actress Parineeti Chopra, on social media.

Chadha was also largely kept away from Punjab during the Lok Sabha elections, making only limited appearances, including at the Shri Anandpur Sahib seat.

Political analysts believe that Chadha had been relatively silent on key party issues in recent months, hinting at growing internal differences within the party.
