Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into the alleged bribery and money laundering case linked to suspended former Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, with the probe now reaching alleged middleman Krishanu Sharda.

The agency has approached the Special PMLA Court in Chandigarh seeking a production warrant for Sharda, who is currently lodged in Burail Jail under judicial custody. The court has issued a notice to Sharda through the jail superintendent and sought his response. The matter is scheduled for hearing on September 18.

The latest move comes nearly five months after the ED conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab and Chandigarh connected to Bhullar as part of its money laundering investigation. The agency now wants to question Sharda regarding his alleged role in the case.

The development also coincides with recent proceedings in the Supreme Court concerning Bhullar’s bail plea. On September 15, the apex court deferred the hearing on his bail application by four weeks, observing that the matter would be considered further after the statements of key witnesses are recorded.

ED had launched action in April this year in connection with the alleged money laundering case and carried out searches at several premises linked to Bhullar across Punjab and Chandigarh. The investigation remains ongoing.
