Big Terror Plot Foiled: BKI Module Operative Arrested in Jalandhar With IED

In a major breakthrough against terror networks operating from across the border, Punjab Police have foiled a major terror plot and busted an ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module allegedly being operated by foreign handlers. The Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar, in a joint operation with Jalandhar Rural Police, arrested the alleged module operative from Jalandhar and recovered an IED packed with explosive material.

The arrested accused has been identified as Satbir Singh, a resident of village Padiyana in the Adampur area of Jalandhar. Police also recovered a black-coloured Platina motorcycle bearing registration number PB-08-ET-6736, which the accused was allegedly using.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that a highly dangerous Improvised Explosive Device (IED), prepared using approximately 1.3 kilograms of high-grade explosive material, was recovered from the accused. The IED was fitted with shrapnel and ball bearings, significantly increasing its destructive potential.

The DGP said the recovery clearly indicated that the terror module intended to disturb peace and harmony and disrupt law and order in the state. He said that timely action had averted a major terror threat and potentially saved the lives of several innocent people.

According to the police, CI Jalandhar teams had received credible information that a member of the BKI module had received a consignment of explosives on the instructions of foreign handlers. Acting swiftly on the intelligence input, joint teams of CI Jalandhar and Jalandhar Rural Police set up a checkpoint at village Dhandaur and intercepted the suspect while he was travelling on his motorcycle.

During the search, the IED was recovered from the bag carried by Satbir Singh. The accused was subsequently taken into custody.

The DGP said further investigation is underway to identify the foreign handlers, local network and other members linked to the terror module, besides tracing its wider connections and activities.

A case has been registered at Police Station Patara, Jalandhar Rural, under Sections 113(1) and 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act.
