A firing incident near Khera in Mohali village late Sunday night left an 18-year-old youth and a young woman injured. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and recovered empty bullet shells from the scene.

The injured, identified as Salman, 18, and Suman, were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6, Mohali, for treatment. According to doctors, Suman’s condition is said to be serious.

The incident reportedly took place near Khera, where a group of youths had gathered for a birthday celebration. While the cake-cutting ceremony was underway, Salman also reached the spot. Shortly afterwards, some youths arrived and an argument broke out over an unspecified issue. The situation escalated, allegedly leading to firing and a knife attack.

After the attack, Salman reportedly ran a considerable distance in an attempt to save himself. The attackers allegedly followed him on a scooter and tried to intercept him on the way.

Salman eventually collapsed near a school in Mohali village after reportedly losing a significant amount of blood. As local residents began gathering at the spot, the accused allegedly fled the scene.

Local residents then helped Salman and took him to the hospital on an Activa. Police subsequently launched an investigation into the incident.

During the firing, a bullet hit Salman in the arm, while Suman sustained injuries from a bullet fragment. According to Salman’s brother, Salman and Suman had gone to the location together. However, it is not yet clear who they had gone there to meet or what led to their presence at the spot. Suman is reportedly a resident of Chandigarh.

Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area to identify those involved. Investigators are also looking into the motive behind the attack and other aspects of the incident.

SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said that the matter is under investigation and that police are examining all aspects related to the incident.
