Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police have intensified their crackdown on drug smuggling along the India-Pakistan border, recovering more than 1 kg of narcotics and nearly ₹1.98 lakh in counterfeit Indian currency in separate operations in Amritsar district. One alleged drug smuggler was also arrested.
In the first operation, personnel of BSF’s 181 Battalion recovered a suspicious packet during a late-night search near BOP Kahangarh in the Gharinda police station area. Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain 577 grams of Ice drug (Crystal Meth). Acting on a complaint filed by Company Commander Rakesh Negi, Gharinda Police registered a case against unidentified smugglers and launched an investigation.
Fake Currency Worth ₹1.98 Lakh Recovered Near Daoke
In another operation in the same sector, BSF troops recovered counterfeit Indian currency worth ₹1.98 lakh near BOP Daoke. Following a complaint by Company Commander Ramesh Chandra Shah, Gharinda Police registered a case and began probing the cross-border network responsible for smuggling the fake currency into India.
Meanwhile, in the Bhindisaida police station area, personnel of BSF’s 45 Battalion recovered an abandoned packet outside Burj village. A search of the packet led to the seizure of 766 grams of opium. Based on a complaint lodged by Company Commander Vikas Sharma, police registered a case against unidentified traffickers.
Smuggler Arrested with Heroin in Lopoke
In a separate development, Lopoke Police arrested an alleged drug smuggler during a patrol near the Hetampura link road. The accused, identified as Gurmej Singh, a resident of Lodhi Gujjar village, was found in possession of 205 grams of heroin and ₹1,200 suspected to be drug money.
Police have registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigation to trace his links with larger narcotics trafficking networks operating in the border region.
