Panic broke out during a BJP-organised Tiranga Yatra in Faridabad district when several schoolchildren participating in the procession suddenly fell ill.
The march, which was being held in the presence of Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam, witnessed heavy crowds and apparent disorder, leading to a number of students suffering from vomiting, dizziness and fainting spells. Some children reportedly collapsed on the road, causing alarm among teachers, parents and other participants.
According to eyewitnesses, the yatra had begun in an enthusiastic and patriotic atmosphere, with students from several government and private schools taking part. The minister attended the event as the chief guest, accompanied by local leaders, administrative officials and a large number of residents.
However, as the procession moved along its designated route, the situation changed rapidly. Witnesses said that crowd pressure increased sharply, and many participants experienced suffocation and discomfort due to the lack of proper ventilation and space. A few students first complained of nausea before repeatedly vomiting, while others became unconscious and fell to the ground.
Teachers accompanying the children acted quickly to prevent the situation from worsening. They carried the affected students to shaded areas along the roadside and arranged immediate first aid. Water was sprinkled on the children’s faces, and they were given drinking water to help them recover.
Parents also stepped in to calm the students and provide fresh air, after which the condition of several children reportedly improved.
The incident has raised serious questions about the administrative arrangements and crowd management at the event. Parents and local residents have demanded an inquiry into whether adequate precautions were taken for the safety of the large number of schoolchildren participating in the Tiranga Yatr
