A 40-year-old former serviceman, Baljinder Singh, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Khiali Chehlanwali village of Mansa district late Friday night, triggering a police investigation into the alleged murder.

According to police, Baljinder Singh’s body was recovered from his house and taken into custody for post-mortem examination. The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital in Sardulgarh.

Police have detained the deceased’s wife for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Baljinder Singh, who had earlier served in the armed forces, was reportedly working in a private factory after retirement from military service.

Villagers and local leaders said the couple had been involved in a long-standing domestic dispute. They claimed the quarrels frequently escalated, and on several occasions the police had to be called through the emergency helpline number 112.

Village sarpanch Amarjit Singh and farmer leader Balkar Singh said that both the police and the village panchayat had earlier intervened multiple times to mediate between the husband and wife. Despite repeated attempts at reconciliation, disputes between the two reportedly continued on a regular basis.

Police officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is received. Investigators are examining all possible angles related to the suspicious death.

The deceased is survived by two children.
