Faridkot Police's CIA Staff has busted an alleged international arms smuggling network and arrested two accused with 10 illegal pistols and 20 live cartridges. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajbir Singh alias Amit and Amar Singh alias Amar, both residents of Amritsar.
Addressing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurbans Singh Bains said that on September 16, a CIA Staff team was patrolling near the canal bridge on Kotkapura Road when it received information that two men carrying illegal weapons were moving around the area near the Central Modern Jail on Talwandi Bhai Road in Faridkot.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police conducted an operation and apprehended both suspects. During the search, officers recovered 10 illegal pistols and 20 cartridges from their possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged mastermind of the network, Deep Singh alias Deepak, who is currently lodged in Amritsar Jail, was allegedly procuring weapons from Pakistan-based smugglers through drones. The arrested accused were reportedly tasked with supplying the weapons in Faridkot and nearby areas.
SSP stated that Deep Singh is already facing cases under the Arms Act and for drug trafficking at Gharinda Police Station. Police are now preparing to bring him to Faridkot on a production warrant for further questioning.
Both arrested accused will be produced before a court and taken on police remand for interrogation. Investigators are also probing the gang’s other members and its suspected international links to uncover the full extent of the arms smuggling network.
