A pall of gloom descended on Kotshamir village in Bathinda after four people died on the same day, with heart attacks being reported as the suspected cause of death.
The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, 30, a suspended police department employee; Gurmel Singh, 35, an electrician; Gandhi Singh, 46; and Gurjant Singh, 70. All four died on Wednesday.
According to Nirmal Singh, president of the Kotshamir Nagar Panchayat, the families of all four deceased reported heart attack as the cause of death. He said the deaths have left the entire village in shock and mourning.
However, only Gurpreet Singh's body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The families of the other three deceased performed their last rites without a post-mortem.
Sadar police station SHO Muneesh Kumar confirmed that Gurpreet Singh, who died suddenly, was a resident of Kotshamir village and was under suspension from the police department at the time of his death.
