A Haryana Police head constable was killed in a tragic road accident while performing duty on the National Highway in the Kundli area of Sonipat district late at night.

Deceased has been identified as Head Constable Devi Dayal, who was posted on a Dial-112 Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). According to police and family members, the ERV team had left for action after receiving a complaint during the night.

When the team reached the National Highway at Kundli, they found a vehicle standing in the middle of the road, causing obstruction to traffic. Head Constable Devi Dayal stepped out of the ERV to get the vehicle removed and restore smooth traffic movement.

At that moment, a speeding unidentified vehicle coming from behind hit him with great force. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot. The driver fled the scene along with the vehicle immediately after the accident.

The body was taken into custody by the police and sent for post-mortem examination.

Devi Dayal was a resident of Namunda village in Samalkha, Panipat. His brother Arjun said that the head constable had been on night duty with the Dial-112 ERV team and had gone to attend a complaint when the fatal accident occurred.

Kundli police station has registered a case and launched a search for the absconding driver. Police teams are examining CCTV footage and other evidence collected from the highway area to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident.

The incident has sparked concern over the safety of police personnel deployed on highways, especially those engaged in emergency response and traffic management duties during night hours.
