In a massive blow to inter-state narcotics trafficking, the Fazilka police have successfully dismantled a high-stakes illegal syndicate by seizing 28 kilograms of high-grade opium smuggled all the way from Manipur. Acting on precise intelligence regarding a heavy contraband shipment entering the border district, law enforcement teams set up a strategic tactical checkpoint near the Hanumangarh overbridge on the Malout–Sriganganagar bypass flyover near Abohar. The security officers intercepted a suspicious canter commercial vehicle bearing registration number PB-13-BS-6581. Upon carrying out an intensive search of the vehicle, police units uncovered multiple plastic bags packed with high-grade opium hidden inside secret compartments, marking one of the largest contraband seizures of its kind originating from a distant northeastern state into the Fazilka border area. Two key couriers present in the vehicle—identified as Sajjan alias Majnu, a resident of Chanan Khera with three prior NDPS cases on record, and Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Abohar town—were immediately taken into custody on the spot.
Preliminary interrogations conducted by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Satinder Kumar revealed that the arrested suspects had directly transported the multi-crore contraband consignment across state borders from Manipur, deliberately choosing long-distance road routes to dodge surveillance checkposts. The recovered opium was intended for bulk distribution to regional drug peddlers operating across the Malwa belt and surrounding border zones of Punjab. Both accused have been formally booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the City-2 Abohar Police Station. Fazilka Police are currently probing both backward and forward linkages to trace the main kingpins operating out of Manipur who dispatched the consignment, map out the local receivers in Punjab, and track down the illegal financial channels powering this cross-country network.
