A 30-year-old woman allegedly distressed by domestic abuse and repeated taunts from her in-laws died by suicide in Ludhiana. Before her death, she recorded a video message lasting around one minute and 20 seconds and sent it to her mother via WhatsApp, reportedly naming her husband and two relatives from her in-laws’ family as responsible for her death.
The deceased has been identified as Shamina alias Shama. According to family members, she was married about 11 years ago to Ajay Mehra alias Ajju, a resident of Rishi Nagar in Ludhiana. Her family alleged that she had been facing physical abuse by her husband and constant harassment from members of her in-laws’ family after marriage.
Police said the woman appeared visibly distressed in the video and shared her grievances with her mother. In the recording, she allegedly held her husband Ajay Mehra, her aunt-in-law Satyo, and Satyo’s daughter-in-law Rimpy responsible for her death.
According to relatives, the video was sent to the victim’s mother shortly before the incident. After watching it, the mother reportedly tried to contact her daughter, but by then she had already died. Investigators are treating the video as an important piece of evidence and are examining its contents along with other circumstances surrounding the case.
Police sources said the woman’s husband allegedly informed the aunt-in-law about the death over the phone. It has also been reported that he left the scene afterward. Police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Tibba Police Station has registered a case against Ajay Mehra, Satyo and Rimpy. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that the allegations made in the complaint and the video will be verified through evidence, witness statements and other findings. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
