After joining the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, Navjot Kaur Sidhu is set to raise her voice for farmers’ rights. She will hold a press conference later this afternoon at the Chandigarh Press Club, where she is expected to corner both the Punjab and Central governments over key agricultural issues. Farmers across Punjab are already expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of their concerns.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) has announced that it may stop train movement in protest against delays in wheat procurement. Farmer organizations including SKM, AKM, and KKM have alleged that a two-week delay in wheat procurement has created major difficulties for farmers in mandis across the state. Large quantities of wheat remain unsold, causing financial losses as well as mental stress for farmers.
Farmer leaders have already demanded that both the Central and Punjab governments immediately start the procurement process to avoid further hardship.
