A case of vandalism and alleged removal of deity idols has been reported from a temple in Fatehgarh Mohalla under Police Station Division No. 4 in Ludhiana city. The incident has triggered strong resentment among local residents.
According to the complaint filed by Fatehgarh Mohalla resident Chhotu Lal, an ancient Mata Durga temple, nearly 50 years old, exists in a small 10-yard space adjacent to the house of Sachin Kumar in the locality. The temple housed idols of Radha-Krishna, Gaumata, Maa Durga, and a Shivling.
On Monday (April 21) around 10 AM, Chhotu Lal visited the temple for his daily prayers and was shocked to find that the idols were missing and the premises had been vandalized.
The complainant further stated that during his personal inquiry, it was revealed that two local youths, Sumit and Sajan, were allegedly involved in the incident. It is alleged that the accused deliberately committed the act to hurt religious sentiments and disturb communal harmony by desecrating and removing the idols.
Police from Division No. 4 have taken swift action and registered a case against both accused youths, Sumit and Sajan.
