A major cross-border smuggling attempt has been foiled along the India-Pakistan international border after a drone carrying weapons was recovered from a paddy field near Tahliwala village in Punjab’s Fazilka district.
Recovery was made during a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Ghubaya police. Acting on specific information provided by the BSF, police station in-charge Abhishek Sharma reached the spot with his team and launched an extensive search operation in the area.
During the search, officials recovered a China-made pistol, two magazines, and four live cartridges along with the drone from a paddy field. The entire area was sealed off for several hours while security personnel conducted a thorough combing operation.
According to police officials, the drone had crossed the international fencing and penetrated nearly one kilometre inside Indian territory before being detected.
The recovered weapons have been seized, and a case has been registered. Investigators are now trying to determine who the consignment was intended for and which cross-border network was involved in the smuggling attempt.
Security agencies believe the incident points to continued efforts by Pakistan-based handlers to use drones for transporting arms and ammunition into Punjab, posing a serious threat to border security.
