Punjab Vigilance Bureau, continuing its anti-corruption drive across the state, has arrested a patwari posted at Revenue Circle Rudka in Dehlon tehsil of Ludhiana district while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused has been identified as Puneet Kumar Yadav, who was serving as a patwari in Mal Halka Rudka, Tehsil Dehlon, District Ludhiana. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by a resident of Dehlon tehsil.
The complainant alleged that the patwari had demanded ₹1 lakh as illegal gratification for carrying out the partition of his land. The spokesperson further stated that the accused had already accepted ₹35,000 from the complainant earlier in connection with the same work.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Economic Offences Wing of the Vigilance Bureau in Ludhiana and lodged a formal complaint.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap. During the operation, the accused patwari was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Economic Offences Wing police station in Ludhiana. Officials said that further investigation is underway to determine whether any other officials were involved in the bribery network.
The latest arrest is part of the Punjab government’s ongoing campaign to crack down on corruption in the revenue and public administration system.
