Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in a cross-border network supplying narcotics and illegal weapons and recovered 15 illegal pistols and five kilograms of heroin from their possession.
IG Border Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with handlers based abroad. Acting on the handlers’ directions, the accused allegedly received consignments of illegal weapons and narcotics, which were then supplied further through the network.
A case has been registered at Gharinda Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Police are questioning the arrested accused to trace the source of the weapons and heroin and identify the members involved in the further distribution network.
Investigators are also probing the accused’s links with foreign-based handlers and the role of other persons associated with the network. Police said efforts are underway to establish the complete chain of the network and identify and arrest other suspects involved in the operation.
